WHY I WRITE

I’m Ian Campbell, an author committed to creating stories that inspire courage, ignite imagination, and help young dreamers and those still searching discover a deeper connection through faith-filled storytelling. As a passionate advocate for literacy, I look forward to engaging with readers through school visits and community events.

I believe storytelling has the power to transform lives, bridge generations, and plant lasting hope in the hearts of both children and adults. Having grown up across various countries, I learned early that the greatest adventures are those that test the spirit and shape character. That belief sits at the heart of my work where the wonder of childhood meets the foundation of my Christian faith.

I write for children seeking heroes, and for adults who value stories that speak truth into a child’s heart. I write because I believe it is what I was created to do. Not for recognition or reward, but from a deep, personal calling. My voice on the page is the same as my voice in conversation—authentic, direct, and inseparable from who I am.

My book Here Am I is a deeply personal work. It stands as my response to God’s calling—a reflection of my journey, my faith, and everything I have experienced, ultimately finding its meaning in Christ. For years, I carried the words “Here am I, Father” in my heart without fully understanding them. Through writing, that understanding has begun to take shape. This book marks a significant step in that journey.

While my children’s books were written earlier, they carry the same foundation of faith—expressed from a different perspective. The Billy Bog Brush series was never part of a plan but, something that emerged unexpectedly and unmistakably with purpose. At its core is a simple but powerful message: encouraging children to say, “I CAN DO THAT!!!” When children speak those words, they believe them. And in that moment, “I can’t” starts to give way to “I can.” That is where change begins.

Everything I write is rooted in a desire to encourage and uplift others. Writing allows me to do that clearly and without barriers—offering something that can be received, reflected on, and carried forward. I believe God is the source of it all—what Scripture calls the “Author and Finisher.” My aim is simply to be used, to allow that purpose to flow through my work, and to reach as many people as possible. Whether speaking to a small group or reading to a large assembly, the mission remains the same: to inspire a confident, faith-led “can-do” mindset.

This is not just my story—it is part of a greater purpose. A story of redemption, courage, and the enduring joy of a life lived with meaning. If even one person can say that a book has changed their life—or a child’s life—then its value is beyond measure. And if it helps someone see God more clearly, or return to Him with renewed faith, then that impact speaks for itself.

My journey as an author has not been a straight path, but a purposeful one. Each story begins in a moment of quiet prompting—a sense of not being pushed into but being led to turn to faith by the written word. And that is what I will continue to do: write stories that carry hope.
